Something about yourself:
My name is Sandra Rede and I live in Jalisco, Mexico. I studied a degree in Graphic Design. From an early age I felt great interest in art especially for painting. I work primarily with acrylics on canvas. I like the illustration, art toys and learning new techniques.
When did you start painting and why?
At 14 years old or so. I always like to draw but one day I do not know why I felt the need for experience with other materials and so was my first contact with the oil, did not know how to use it but I remember I painted an apple and a pear on a piece of cardboard. I continued painting for several years and as a practice I did still lifes, landscapes and faces, until in 2007 I had my first exhibition in a coffee-gallery. At that time the art became my profession.
What is your creative process like?
I spend many hours online reading about art, illustration, design and looking for images, knowing the work of artists that inspire me and motivate me to create new work. I have a notebook where I do quick sketches, sometimes one or two but almost always I do more because I'm a bit undecided at this stage, I look for reference images if the painting is about a specific topic, I think which use colors I will use and when I can visualize the painting I start to draw on the canvas and paint.
What kind of music do you listen while you are working?
Classical, Folk, Gothic, Metal, Rock.
What inspires you most of all?
Nature, different cultures, music, crafts.
Artists you admire:
My favorite ... because she started motivating me for drawing from an early age: Naoko Takeuchi, will always be the first on my list; the great Remedios Varo, Caravaggio, Leonardo da Vinci… also I get a lot of inspiration from the work of several young painters and illustrators as Sarah Joncas, Lori Earley, Audrey Kawasaki and Natalie Shau, all very talented.
How do you use the internet to promote/sell your art?
Through my blog and my Facebook page, I upload pictures of my finished works and share images on Twitter of projects in process that I will start working on.
What are you working on at this time?
I'm working on sketches for new paintings. I want to be more personal and better technically I've done so far. I also spent much time making papier-mache figures because if it’s possible I would like to organize an exhibition. I'm getting more into the world of art toy and practicing pyrography.

Mi nombre es Sandra Rede y vivo en Jalisco, México. Estudié la licenciatura en Diseño Gráfico. Desde temprana edad sentí gran interés por el arte en especial por la pintura, principalmente trabajo con acrílicos en lienzo. Me gusta la ilustración, los art toys y aprender nuevas técnicas.
¿Cuándo empezaste a pintar y por qué?
A los 14 años más o menos. Siempre me gusto dibujar pero un día no sé por qué sentí la necesidad de experimentar con otros materiales y así fue mi primer contacto con el óleo, no sabía cómo utilizarlo pero recuerdo que hice una manzana y una pera sobre un pedazo de cartón. Continué pintando por varios años y como práctica hice desde bodegones, paisajes y rostros hasta que en 2007 tuve mi primera exposición en un café galería. En ese momento el arte se convirtió en mi profesión.
¿Cómo es tu proceso creativo?
Paso muchas horas en internet leyendo sobre arte, ilustración, diseño y buscando imágenes, conociendo el trabajo de artistas que me inspiran y me motivan para crear nueva obra. Tengo un cuaderno donde hago bocetos rápidos a veces hago uno o dos pero casi siempre hago más ya que soy un poco indecisa en este paso, busco imágenes de referencia si la pintura es sobre algún tema en específico, pienso en los colores que utilizaré y en el momento que puedo visualizar la pintura empiezo a trazar en el lienzo y a pintar.
¿Qué tipo de música escuchas mientras estás trabajando?
Música clásica, Folk, Gótica, Metal, Rock.
¿Qué es lo que más te inspira?
La naturaleza, diferentes culturas, la música, las artesanías.

Mis preferidos... gracias a ella empecé a dibujar y me motivo desde muy chica: Naoko Takeuchi siempre será la primera en mi lista; la gran Remedios Varo, Caravaggio, Leonardo da Vinci… además me inspira mucho el trabajo de varias pintoras e ilustradoras jóvenes como Sarah Joncas, Lori Earley, Audrey Kawasaki y Natalie Shau, todas ellas muy talentosas.
¿Cómo usas internet para promocionar/vender tu arte?
A través de mi blog y mi pagina en facebook, subo fotos de mis trabajos terminados y en twitter comparto imágenes del proceso o proyectos en los que voy a iniciar a trabajar.
¿En qué estás trabajando en este momento?
Estoy trabajando en bocetos para nuevas pinturas. Deseo que sean más personales y técnicamente mejores a las que he realizado hasta ahora. También paso mucho tiempo haciendo figuras de papel maché porque, si es posible, me gustaría organizar una exposición. Me estoy involucrando más en el mundo del art toy y practicando pirograbado.
